Taking supplies with me.

The purpose of life is not to behappy - but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make somedifference that you have lived at all."Leo Rosten

In a few weeks, I will be leaving the air conditioned sanctuary that is my home for Leogane, Haiti. I will arrive in Haiti on June 23rd, 2010- where I will work in the sweltering heat Monday thru Saturday, clearing rubble and whatever else is required of me until my departure on July 15th, 2010. I will spend my nights in a tent or a bunk on an air mattress- listening to the harmony of nearly a hundred volunteerssnoring.

Although my PTO request says vacation time, this trip is no vacation. With bucket showers and electricity only by generator a few hours a night- the living conditions are a little rough. Maybe only one star out of five (I have a lot of jokes).
I would like to bring with me supplies neededby our base camp and some items desired by the volunteers, and I need your help. I have provided the link to the wish list(updated frequent) in case you would like to help me bring these items to the project:

Should you wish to donate supplies, please keepin mind that I am only allowed 2 carry on bags weighing no more than 50#s each-also we are not allowed to bring items to give to the children, as if you give to one you have to give to all and the children of Leogane need schools built more than they need stickers or little toys. I do also know that Base camp has the desire for good mountain bikes. There is two on site and are used frequently. I don't know how to ride a bike but I could figure out how to get one on the plane with me.

If you wish to donatedirectly to HODR please visit:

Thanks so much, Mary G
